Life Cycle: Ambient Music Motion Posters

From conception in 1970 until now, I developed a motion poster series that documents the changes in the fifty year time period of the ambient music genre.

The content for the posters were created from cymatics experiments for each of the tracks, in order to turn the sounds of the music into visuals. By filming these experiments, I was able to see which patterns, shapes and behaviours were made from each track.

I then recreated these unique visual identities in TouchDesigner, creating the motion content of the posters.

To communicate the nature of the genre, I presented my poster series as a projection, with the projection played as background visuals to daily routine motions.
